I guess the Republicans convinced her they had sufficient control of the polling process that she still has a chance. At least she's fighting whatever lame opponent the Dems can find and the breaking news. There's still a chance the Dems can inherit the seat.

The Iran Drum Beats 

Mr. Bush's speech and policy document writers have scripted him to try to turn the conversation to Iran and avoid further discussion of the messes in Iraq and Afghanistan. [Reuters Article]

While they're using the language of diplomacy, it's clear that diplomatic failure will have as many repercussions in their execution as it did in Iraq (none). The military option is paramount and visible with only the simplest reading between the lines.

The bigger the war, the larger the number of "freedom fighters", the better they'll be able to organize. What little we thought we knew about Iraq, we probably know even less about Iran these days.

They elected this new hard-liner over a more comfortable moderate, remember. This is regime overthrow of a duly democratically elected regime. That's going to be interesting to frame for the UN.
