Pacificon 2006 Patch ... redux Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Pacificon has decided not to do patches because they lose lots of money every year.I got an estimate from American Patch for $1.85 for 100 ... If we sold 80 at $2.50, we'd break even.

Seamus O'Suzuki ... Permanent link to this item in the archive.

what do Traditional Irish Music and the Suzuki method of teaching kids to play violin have in common? There the same thing.

It's all about playing by ear and memorizing the "tunes". Both use the technique, one as a foundation and the other as a starting point. Suzuki method revolutionized the teaching of strings years ago. I doubt there's a string teacher who doesn't believe it works (even if many still don't use it). So the Celtic approach makes a lot of sense.

Howard is convinced the paper is an impediment to learning the tunes. I need to learn the skills.

Bokardo on mediation (lost the link) ... Permanent link to this item in the archive.

a rant of sorts. But one voice is mediated. Multiple voices, taken together are likely less mediated.

The broader the spectrum of voices (viewpoints, cultures, etc.) the less the aggregate is mediated. Read your friends. Read your enemies. Read their friends. Read their enemies. Take a centrist view and you probably have the truth somewhere in there.

The fact of the matter is that between the reporters not telling the truth to begin with and the victors rewriting history to suit their desired mythos, there is no unmediated truth. It is probably safest to be skeptical and look for the conspiracies of the victors or the mighty.

The moonlight was bright enough I didn't need to turn on lights upstairs when I came up for the morning net. Crystal clear.

Rowed 10,000m in 47:36.4.

HR got up to 152 but levelled out at 150 - 151. Trying to maintain a pace of 2:23 and finished at an average of 2:22.8. A nice improvement over the last 10K.
