Clearly this man was inspired when he saw Napoleon Dynamite.

Outlines for Class Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Typing this on the subway. Just realized that outlines and the inheritance feature would be perfect for organizing my class. I have a list of topics I want to teach but I'm not sure exactly when. I have a number of classes. I teach the same course each year but it's always developing and changing.

So, I have the topics in an outline which subscribes to other outlines. And each year I have a class 1, class 2, etc which from year to year will have slightly different ordering of these topics. And I make notes during the class to share info with the students.

All of this can be kept organized on my machine, but it can also be published on a website easily. AND if I can get the students hip to this, they could actually subscribe to my outlines and make notes on their own outlines.

Don't know if any of that made sense to anyone else, or if all the pieces are in place, but it seems to me this could be very cool.

Must get everyone to bring a laptop to next class and have them all install OPML. We're all sitting on a wireless network in the class. Mind is racing . . .

Timestamp Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Hmmm. I was looking for ways to get a space between entries hit the return key at the top level, Saved and I see that there's a small timestamp/permalink inserted. I like. Actually, I prefer this to the blue arrow thingy after the title of the entry. With some digging I'm sure I can arrange things the way I like.

 "AWESOME"

Yes, waaaay cool. I'd been wrestling with this very problem just last weekend. I love to write in an outliner but I prefer to present in something, uh, more presentable, specifically Keynote. The problem was that I wanted to also be able to post the info I'd presented as a page on a website, something opml should handle nicely. With this tool I should be able write in opml and distribute my content as I see fit.

Now all I have to do is figure this stuff out!

And then . . .

 Busted!

I suppose now I'll have to keep at this thing!

Discuss Permanent link to this item in the archive.

That didn't take long. A couple days ago I speculated that there would soon be a discussion group for this tool. Actually it already existed. It just wasn't widely exposed.

Tonight I stumbled onto the OPML Editor Discussion Group. I'm going to start reading in the next day or two.
