Menus
Donovan pointed me to a solution he was looking for.
| | yes! i've been asking for bookmarks in opml editor and now it looks like i've found my answer. thanks to random bits and lisa and mark woods. |
But the instructions were not clear to me. I muddled around and by some combination of flukes and hunches got it to work. I still don't understand why this works but then I don't really care! ;-] Herewith a step by step.
Most of the stuff below will not show up in NewsRiver 'cause I'm indenting.
How to get the Radio/Frontier-style User and Bookmarks Menus in the OPML Editor
[Sorry, these instructions are Mac oriented. But you Windows users probably know how to compensate!]
Step by Step
| | in the dialogue that pops up select "Duplicate" |
| | optionally, you can rename the new entry (I used myBookmarkMenu) |
| | in the dialogue that pops up select "Duplicate" |
| | optionally, you can rename the new entry (I used myMenu) |
| | you will find two new menus in OPML |
| | PGC (substitute your own initials here) |
Bookmarks
| | Navigate to an item you would like to bookmark |
| | select Bookmarks->Add Bookmark |
Custom Menu
| | this menu appears as your initials |
| | you can put whatever you like in here |
| | so far I've entered commonly used but deeply nested commands from a couple of different tools |
| | select user.menus.myMenu (or whatever you decided to call your duplicated customMenu) |
| | if =user.prefs.initials is not expanded double-click on it |
| | I simply copied scripts from other menus and pasted them in here |
| | if this ever ended up in a FAQ this bit could be expanded |
| | remember that if you hit return and type in only a "-" you will get a nice separator in your menu |
| | handy for organizing your Custom Menu |
Caveats
| | If you chose Edit Menu from your custom menu you will open the original custom menu, that is, the one which is not actually being drawn in your menu bar. I simply replaced the text in that menu bar with the following whic allows me to simply double-click on the second item and open the menu I really meant to open. |
| | You probably want to go here |
| | There is doubtless a much more elegant solution but this whole thing is a hack for now! |
Prefs
Looking at the prefs which are available so far it becomes a little clearer how the OPML Editor can be used
