Back to the Template Future Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Okay, got it back, I accidently deleted a closing center> bracket tag. Boy, sure would be good if we could have a way to reset the template back to it's original default, so that we could restore it if it gets messed up. Phew!!!

OUCH! Messed up My Template Permanent link to this item in the archive.

The New Heroes - The Social Entrepreneur from PBS Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Social Entrepreneur's are changing the world for the betterment of all.

What is a Social Entrepreneur?

A social entrepreneur identifies and solves social problems on a large scale. Just as business entrepreneurs create and transform whole industries, social entrepreneurs act as the change agents for society, seizing opportunities others miss in order to improve systems, invent and disseminate new approaches and advance sustainable solutions that create social value.

Unlike traditional business entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs primarily seek to generate "social value" rather than profits. And unlike the majority of non-profit organizations, their work is targeted not only towards immediate, small-scale effects, but sweeping, long-term change.

Who are the Social Entrepreneurs?

What is a hero? The American Heritage Dictionary defines the word as "a person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life."

The heroes you'll meet on these pages and in these films are different from those in the pages of most history books. They are not famous politicians or legendary soldiers — yet they have improved the lives of MILLIONS of people and made the world more secure. Their 'arsenals' are not of weaponry, but of creative ideas, dogged determination and a deep belief in their power to change the world. Also known as "social entrepreneurs," they develop innovations that bring life-changing tools and resources to people desperate for viable solutions. Click here to access the object that's linked to this item.

Fabio Rosa is one such person changing our world

Through STA (Agroelectric System of Appropriate Technology) and IDEAAS (Institute for Development of Natural Energy ans Sustainability), Rosa has been working to bring electricity and community development to rural Brazil since the early 1980s using a combination of non-profit and business approaches to reach the largest possible number of people, including the very poor.

Thanks to Dave Winer for the Calendar update Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Thanks for the quick update on the Calendar and the other goodies! I was on late last night from the West Coast, and I noticed the calendar was funky when the month/date tripped over to August. This morning when I got up, it was fixed! you say it took "Two Days to Write the Blog Tool". Incredible! I need to learn more about your development platform!!!

Creating top-line entries in my Outliner Permanent link to this item in the archive.

One of the problems I had was how to create an entry at the top of my "Today's Outline" editor. If I go to the "edit" menu, there is no insert. If I go the the top of the editor window entries and press "enter" it creates a second level new line. Hmmm..., so what is the "New Entry" button for???? So, I push it and viola! A new line is created at the top. Doh!!!

Web 2.0 Permanent link to this item in the archive.

I have been reading Doc Searl's weblog, and I have found his writings to be fascinating and interesting. I previewed his set of slides for a presentation he gave in June in New York, I think. Alas, I have lost the link to the presentation, or I would have provided it. Doc has been able to put into words, something that has been in my consciousness for quite some time. How we frame our world through words and concepts. I now know where I sit on the question of a free and open internet. Web 2.0 concepts, Free Markets and Free Culture, and the development of a free and open internet are very important to me. Click here to access the object that's linked to this item.
