Blog Map Added Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Well, I am not sure about this, but I added a Blog Map from Feedmap. Scroll down on the right to see it. Kinda cool, we'll see what happens with it. Click here to access the object that's linked to this item.

What Can OPML Do For Us? Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Basically, I think that we haven't even touched the surface of what OPML can do for us, and how we can use it. The power of this one simple concept, outlining (and then publishing it to the internet), and how Dave Winer has implemented it, is astounding and eye-opening, and mind boggling.

As a start, I suggest imho, that you might want to search the web for opml and see if you can find and grok all the ways that it is being used today. There are search engines, there are lists, there are music directories, there are news directories, (I even saw an animal husbandry directory and dogshow notes in OPML!) and there are many, many uses that we haven't even dreamed up yet. But, there are those out there who are starting to get a handle on it.

I also think that you might want to consider that your thought process right now is based upon html pages (ie data) served dynamically from some type of back-end sql database. OPML has a much wider reach than back-end databases, and also has the advantage that the data is easily produced and maintained without a back-end database engine. OPML is much more loosely coupled. In other words, it allows for dynamic linking, and the idea of inclusion. I can include other OPML files in my list! Just like blogs, through links, can include other blogs. A very powerful concept in itself, and one that was so simply obvious, that it took years for us to realize it. Well, maybe not all of us, Dave Winer had it put together much earlier than most of us!

There are so many other things to consider with this technology, that further discussion is warranted. I am not the expert, just a thinker.

Another day for Busyness... Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Okay, this day is chock full of meetings, support calls, and whatnot.

However, I just wanted to say

Thanks Dave, for the nod on the Hoist, De-Hoist bug-fix. This one fix save users from potential disaster, and demonstrates the dedication of Mr. Winer to the OPML project. So, a BIG THANK YOU! Goes out to Dave Winer!!!
