Why XML Security is Broken Permanent link to this item in the archive.

This has been a question of mine for a long time. Why is XML security so hard? Why hasn't someone done it so that we can secure XML traffice?

Well here is the answer, from the creator of cryptlib, and it makes sense to me. Click here to access the object that's linked to this item.

OPML Community Server Permanent link to this item in the archive.

I sure would like to find the time to create an OPML Community Server and offer it up for consumption. Who knows, maybe I will get a block of time soon. Some contracts are coming to a close, and others are in the wings. There might be some time to get the OPML server thingy going.

I must admit that I am hesitant to do this, due to the potential support and time commitment, but the contribution the greater community could be significant.

Part of me would like to set it up and charge a nominal fee to cover the cost of operation and a little on the side to offset the cost of supporting the users.

The OPML Community is coming together, and maybe others will want to play with me in supporting another free community server OPML Blogging service.

I would am also considering starting a developer's OPML Community Server so that the developers can play around in a live environment

Mashups Permanent link to this item in the archive.

I have been looking at the Mashup conference. I had no idea that there were so many API's out there that could be used to put together the informtion in different ways. There are some interesting uses of the API's and the ways that the data has been put together.

Writing Web Services in .NET Permanent link to this item in the archive.

I ventured forth into creating web services written in c# (.NET) this past week for a consulting gig. A very interesting experience. There are so many things you can do with web services. One thing I don't like is that the userid and the password to the database are transmitted in the clear. Since this is inside the corporate firewall, I am not too concerned, but security would definitely have to be beefed up (a.k.a. - encrypted data) for any password access to outside resources.
