W3future has an online OPML Loader. Give it the URL of an OPML file and it will show it to you in HTML. Nifty! Superstitions. Rebecca MacKinnon was opmlblogging away -- but the OPML editor shut down at the stroke of midnight. Maybe at midnight Murphy gives us all a little touch...if he does, tip your hat to him and say, "Another day, another outline!" RKato: "This is very much like watching the early days of development on the tool that eventually became Radio Userland. Back in the day Pike was all kinds of things before it became a blogging tool. I wonder how this will turn out, we start with what looks like a blogging tool and I can't wait to see what it becomes." True. There are lots of apps that do one thing and do it well, and that's great. But the truly great apps open onto the unknown. We can't know what people will eventually use them for. And, I love early tool history tidbits. Radio was once known as "Pike?" I'm demonstrating the OPML Editor to my husband Evan. Mikkel shares a birthday with my mother. (Isn't there some sort of classic bar bet that works because you don't have to have very many people at all to find two in the group with the same birthday?) At this point all OPML Bloggers could fit in a bar...which come to think of it isn't a bad idea. Spicy OPML Roll: "On interactivity and the internet: "Reward those who read, and suffice those who don't." I just made that up right now." As we say in Boston, wicked smaaaht. Kevin Schultz: "Welcome to the 28th of July, 2005. You will never see it again. :)" Look at how good Peter Breuls' OPML blog looks! How did he do that? I am writing a User Manual for the OPML Editor. I'm keeping drafts of it as I work on it at http://hosting.opml.org/thisislisa/opmleditormanual.opml. If you're using the OPML editor, you can see it nicely formatted by choosing File>Open URL and pasting in the URL of the manual. I'm going to BlogHer, a conference on women and blogging, this weekend. I'll be cohosting a session on podcasting and videoblogging with the astonishing videoblog goddess Ryanne Hodson, and I'm very excited about it Are any of you OPMLheads coming? and you know I should really quit playing with this OPML blog and polish up my presentation...ahem... Eric Kidd demonstrates Instant Outlining -- subscribable outlines that will notify you when there are changes! Cool. I need to get on top of this for the manual... Dave's collection of docs for the OPML Editor are at http://docs.opml.org. These are essential if you want to get started. read them. Tom Simpson has set up a wiki for users of the OPML Editor. It's official. I've become completely obsessed with the OPML Editor. I've got a gazillion other things to do...and all I wanna do is outline ;-) Q: Uninstalling: "I want to do a fresh install from scratch, but when I try to delete the OPML folder, I get an "access denied" message that says parts of the program are in use A: The OPML editor has a System Tray icon that you may not have noticed. Right click on it and choose "Exit OPML Editor." Now when you try to delete the folder the OPML editor is in, it should work. Q: When I try to post an item that has more than three indents to my weblog, only the top two levels show up. What gives? A: As of today (7/28/2005), only the top two levels in an outline show up. (Luyi Chen has done some more documentation of this phenomenon, complete with screenshots). It's unclear whether this is a bug or an opening for future features (such as tucking away lower level indents on pages that are one click away from the main page of your blog). UserFromHell has the best banner image EVAR. Some users are reporting getting error messages when they build the RSS for their OPML blog if their Windows machine is set up to use a language other than English. Luyi Chen has a screenshot of the error. Cristian Vidmar says that changing the setting to English solves the problem. |
