Raymond Kristiansen: "Privacy as we are used to it is gone. And in an era where so much information is available about all of us, it also gets a bit harder to take ad hominem attacks seriously. Of course, we all have emotions, and if someone make fun of my big nose my ego will surely take a blow, but it’s all fun, and it’s all part of life." My blogfriend David Weinberger says, "A culture of transparency must be a culture of forgiveness."

Fran gives an interview about Podcasting to a Long Island paper. "I am doing a Jungian embracing of my shadow side and accepting my desire for fame on some level." Fran's correct that others' attention or esteem is sandy ground to build your soul's house on. But there's also a lot of value in sharing something with people who might find it useful or entertaining. I'm sure lots of people have heard about podcasting for the first time on the radio or in print. I think Fran will be a good ambassador for Podcast Nation.

Cowhand: "Today, I filed a story about how to build a better, bigger feral hog trap." I wonder if Cowhand knows that there's a long article on feral hogs this week in, of all places, the New Yorker. The hogs destroy rangeland, bird habitat, and will eat your pets if given the opportunity. The article isn't online, but there is a web feature audio of an interview with an artist who has made a series of paintings of the wild pigs(!!). The best meal I have ever eaten was in Florence in 1998, a plate of pasta chingiale -- pasta with a sauce made from tomatoes and the meat of a wild boar. If feral hogs taste anything like that, there might be a free market solution to the problem.  Permanent link to this item in the archive.
