John Tintle is using OPML to publish his Space Photos How cool! He says: "Now on to the not so quick question, you see I have a WordPress.com website called Space Photos. The site is just a bunch of space images or images from space. I have been manually creating OPML files for each post, and for each month, well trying to anyway. Within each post's OPML file I create a Node for the Permalink, Image, Image Credit, Explanation, and tags, which follows the way I post my images on the WP.com site. I was wondering if you have heard of a script that would help me create OPML files of my posts automatically. I was thinking if I add div tags such as div="Image Credit" [I took out the angle brackets because the text was disappearing -- Lisa] into each part of the post, I could find a PHP script that could take the content:encoded from WP's RSS feed and parse an OPML file out of that. I want to do this because I think OPML would be great to use as an archive, and a clean way to view posts. If you know of anyone who would be interested in helping me develop this idea, I would be more than happy to talk to them. You see my php skills are rather limited. I know enough to break stuff, then fix the stuff I break, but as far as me doing this, I think it might be a little out of my league right now." I think this would be a great Wordpress plugin. Mindjet's MindManager Pro 6 reads and writes both OPML and SSE. this is the first app that I know of making active use of SSE. It's a diagramming tool for publishing "mind maps." I wonder what they use SSE for? Alex Barnett quotes George Moromosiato of Microsoft: "The chance of a standard being adopted is inversely proportional to its complexity." Does anybody else worry that RSS with SSE will be like the HTML that Microsoft Word produces? I worry that SSE is a lot more complicated than RSS itself. Maybe I'm just fretting. At this point, we just have to wait and see. By their fruits shall ye know them, trying to judge them before they flower is silly. FreshBlog: OPML for Blog Content? If you wanted to switch hosts, your stuff would be easy to move, and if something bad happened to your hosting service, it would be easier to recover. I'll be interested to see where this leads. Scripting News is one of the easiest sites to read on my PSP, which shipped with the NetFront browser. Many blogs.opml.org sites are similarly PSP-friendly, a pleasure to read on a small device. This is another reason I'm hoping someone gets an RSS reader up and running on the PSP -- the graphical elements and layout of sites are what I have trouble with, and RSS strips many of those out. Gada.be, Chris Pirillo's OPML-enabled search engine, is designed for use on small devices, and works well on the PSP, too. Ordinary Average Guy is a member of the New Jersey Podcasters' Association and uses the OPML Editor to create his Show Notes. Using my Crock Pot for the 2nd time in a week. Must be winter. |
