Hello, OPMLites! It's another day in OPMLand, and presumably in real life, too... David Sifry of Technorati: I've been very intrigued by the possibilities around Reading Lists, and so we wanted to support them as quickly as possible in the most intuitive place as possible. Exactly how does Technorati use OPML in its implementation of Reading Lists? Does it import OPML but export something else? Import and export? Who's played with it? UPDATE: 3:04PM EST. Got a nearly supernaturally prompt reply from both Dave and Niall Kennedy of Technorati. I love the blogosphere! Yes, it does in fact use OPML throughout. More to come. Maybe a screencast? Alex Barnett: Just When I Thought It Was Safe Not To Blog About OPML Susan Mernit picks up on the OPMLization of Technorati. Fran can't watch the video tutorial on how to create a Reading List, which may signal problems for other Mac users. I have tried to convert this into Quicktime, but the result is terrible-- there's so much choppy pixelization I can't read what's on the screen. If anyone reading this has the ability to convert an .avi to .mov, I'd really appreciate your generous volunteer effort. I'd be happy to host the resulting file. Hi, Fran! I've had such a great year. I've been bubbling along doing stuff that I would (and do) do for free, and it's been useful enough to other people that now I have many people who want to play along too -- do projects together do work together, etc. Now I have too many fun projects! (This is what my mother calls a High Class of Problem). I realized that I had to decide which ones I really wanted to do. Right now I've settled on OPML and citizen journalism, including my community site H2otown, which just celebrated its first birthday. I want to do those well and regularly, EVERY DAY. I want them to be part of my life like brushing my teeth. I want to give preference to work and projects that give back to people who are my friends and who helped me get where I wanted to go, and those people are in OPML and citizen journalism. So how to get there? There are probably many things I need to do to get there. Well, for one thing, cut down on travel. I enjoy it but it throws a major wrench in my work if it's not directly related to my work. I'll do the two remaining things I'm committed to this year, and then the rest will be Serious Play in The Communities. I won't get to sleep in hotel beds as often, but I will be happy anyway. iJot has a nice looking web outliner. Donovan Watts has a nice theme for OPML blogs. It's sharp looking! Malmsermon: "Every solid sermon begins with an outline...Dave's new editor is web-ready." It's official. Outlining is divine. |
