Hammer Down Hillbilly: So, with my Windows Live Messenger fired up, I can now fire up my browser, read all my news, favourite bloggers, techie junk and other stuff, skip over to my Windows Live Mail, and update my MSN Space all from my very own, self configured start page. Who woulda thunk it possible? This is the best thing since DOS 5.1." Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Larry: "The internet is currently undergoing a radical change that does not involve Web 2.0, RSS, OPML files, or atom. " Oh, my gawd! Really? Just kidding. But seriously, email newsletters? Well, to each their own. I got Larry's message just fine via my River of News. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Browsing the agenda for OPML Camp. Although I live in metro Boston, I'll be in Denver that week, teaching a class on writing with my nearly lifelong friend Meg. Looking at the second day, there seems to be a lot of emphasis on where the community is stuck, rather than where the community is moving forward. Is OPML really ready for a camp? If we're having a whole session on namespaces, maybe not.  Permanent link to this item in the archive.

There's a bookmarklet that will generate an OPML list of the links on an HTML page. Nifty! Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Russell Beattie: I'm not sure why Del.icio.us and Yahoo! MyWeb don't support importing from OPML, since that's pretty much a semi-standard for bookmarks, but they don't...So I whipped up a quick PHP script that'll suck in my Bloglines OPML list and export it as a [list of] bookmark[s]."

I'm not sure, but I think this is an OPML directory of blogs in China. Paging GlobalVoices.org...

Adam Green's Top 10 Sources list of blogs on OPML.. It will be interesting to see how instant dynamic pages based on RSS will change how blogs are written. For instance, scanning down the page of the best blogs on OPML and seeing the most recent entries, there are very few mentions of OPML. Maybe blogs will become more narrowly focussed in response to this, or RSS feeds for tags/categories will become much more prominent as a way to offer content from a blog to a filter site like Top 10, Megite, Squidoo, etc. In my opinion, the best way to get news about OPML is to use keyword-based RSS feeds. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Here's an OPML file of blogs recommended by Om Malik. Downloaded. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

This is the first sentence I've read that has both OPML and "Second Life" in it. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

DoubleDubs: "I’ll be completely honest with saying that I’m not sold on RSS and OPML as enterprise business technologies." It'll happen all around you whether you're sold on it or not. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Dan: "I would like to find someone who's hosting OPML editor blogs for educational use." Please do correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there are only a handful of instances of the OPML Community Server -- the backend that's publishing the blog you're reading now -- that are currently online. The fact that there are few OPML Community Servers isn't a bad thing; I think the idea is to get OPML to talk to existing web apps, like WordPress, or S3, rather than creating a new class of server backends -- the OCS is an example, to show what's possible, to give people a way to see what it's like to blog with OPML, how different it is from today's blog software.  Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Marshall Kirkpatrick: "Check out God.us though - the U.S. registered URL. It redirects you to Free-Samples.com - where you'll find lots of coupons and cheap stuff to buy. Kosso has shaved his beard. My father and my husband were close friends, and on the morning of my father's funeral, my husband was so upset and distracted that he accidentally shaved off a big chunk of his beard, which meant he had to shave off the whole thing. His radical change in appearance seemed like a symbol of how radically everything had changed. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Grazr Blog: "Just recovered from a minor heart attack. I didn’t realize how closely I’d tuned the grazr server. The new code exhibits a slightly different memory footprint and that difference caused the grazr server to completely die (running out of memory). It was only down about 10 minutes as far as I can tell, but it’s definitely pointing me to the fact that I probably need more horsepower than what I’m running now.
