I was reading a blog the other day, and it mentioned the movie Citizen Ruth. It was on TV last night. Superb film. It reminds me in a strange sort of way of my favourite American movie, The Big Lebowski (the character Harlan, played by M. C. Gainey, reminds me of The Dude in his cheery optimism and of Walter's military realism). Ruth is a comedy about abortion, but what it's really about is individualism - usually a taboo word. Ruth wasn't driven by ideology, only by money, and Harlan was the only person to answer the call of the individual rather than the try to fit people in to their own ideology. I'm trying to imagine what would happen if this film were about Britain rather than Omaha, Nebraska. The thought is pretty distressing. ![]()
I'm currently playing Final Fantasy XI almost addictively. I've got to level 10 and am doing loads of cool quests. ![]()
