If you have a UK passport and it is going to run out soon, renew it this summer, even if you don't plan to travel. If you renew your passport before they introduce the new system, you will be able to avoid getting stuck on the National Identity Register for a decade. I renewed mine last summer, so I'm safe for nine years - if your passport has only got a year or two to run, or it's expired and haven't gone abroad yet, do it now rather than later. Hopefully, within nine years, I'll have left this totalitarian shit-hole and rescinded my British citizenship.
