My new blog is here

ZoomClouds, a very interesting and cool service, doesn't support untitled RSS, despite the fact that the RSS 2.0 specification states that all elements in an RSS feed are optional except either title or description. Basically, if you feed it an RSS file that contains any untitled entries, the site hangs. Of course, because it's only us crazy folks in OPMLia who actually pay attention to the spec where it states that titles are optional, I can make a quite simple bet that nothing will happen about this. Shame, I wanted a ZoomCloud for my site so that I could keep myself accountable and make sure I didn't spend too much time talking about non-technology subjects. I also have an idea about how one could use the XML API that they have and pull OPML out of it. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

The Education Podcast Network has lots of interesting shows especially for people who want to learn a second language. I just found Let's Speak German! for instance. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

I don't know how I missed this lovely plant when I visited the Eden Centre. I bet the THC count is within the legal limits for hemp, but I'm glad that they are representing all of creation inside those two big ol' biodomes.  Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Note: A while back I wrote about how much I hate the word "vlog". It's still a thoroughly shitty name for a video podcast, but "vodcast" has to be worse. Vodcast has only two purposes: a podcast about Vodafone (dull) or vodka (much better). What's so wrong with video podcast or maybe videocast at a push? Vlog and vodcast are really terrible names and whoever came up with them should be hit over the head with a big stick. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Nick Douglas reads Steve Gillmor so you don't have to. You know, Marshall Kirkpatrick is probably there so that Mike's ego doesn't get battered like he described at BloggerCon. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Oh, just in case anyone had their hopes up for a homicide trial for Mr de Menezes' killer, you can forget it. The CPS have decided not to prosecute. But we know exactly who did it, when, where, we've got the photos. It's beyond reasonable doubt that they are guilty of constructive manslaughter. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Check out the graphical Daily WTF from a few days ago. They've got a lovely graphic of an Electrostar train saying that it's "Coach 12 of 11". Heh. I travel on them trains. They have some real nice little oddities. Occasionally, they'll "crash". No, not in to things, they'll just crash. The whole train's computer system will crash - all the lights will go out. It happened once while standing at London Bridge station completely packed with commuters going home. I wonder what OS they are running. The other thing they do is sometimes the announcements go haywire and they'll start saying "Welcome aboard the (Ding-dong!) Coach eleven (Ding-dong!) Hastings service (Ding-dong!) Drinks and light refreshments (Ding-dong!) Smoking is forbidden on all (Ding-dong!) South Eastern Trains would like to apologise for the late running of this service". The other thing they have is they use GPS to work out the position of the train, and the doors won't open unless the train is (a) stationery and (b) in the right place. The only problem is that when it's cloudy, the GPS computer stops working and you have to sit there for about three minutes until they figure out how to open the doors. Anyway, the "Southern E-Group" have documented the train I take to London in frankly obsessive detail herePermanent link to this item in the archive.

Otaku elite. Had to be Japan. Just had to be. What I'd be more interested in would be the Yorkshire Otaku Elite...  Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Snipperoo is a UK-based startup with widgety intentions founded by some old hands at the UK net game. Deidre Molloy (who I've met a couple of times) has the full details, and Ivan has blog about Snipperoo. Hey guys, we need to talk about GrazrPermanent link to this item in the archive.

I just got an email from Eberhard Rensch from Pleasant Software. They're doing a beta version of their Mac podcasting tool Übercaster. It's coming out on the 24th of July but you can join the beta test on the site. It looks really good. Hopefully, I'll have my Mac back from AppleCare before they release it for proper. Go, have a lookPermanent link to this item in the archive.
