Why are civil liberties like one's virginity? Once it's gone, you can't get it back. Take note, liquid carrying plane passengers. You may not care too much that you can't take water on the plane. I care a lot. I'm not a good flyer at all, and the thought of seven hours with only the minimal amounts of water that the airlines give out is more terrifying than all the terrorist pussy-cats in the world. Your civil liberties are on the way out. Roll again and just hope it isn't freedom of speech that's next. ![]()
I was very pleased to hear this news. It goes back to the news that rugby was being discontinued in schools because of health and safety fears. Which is silly. It should be optional, but not discontinued. ![]()
The anaesthetic has finally worn off. I had fairly major dental surgery today. I had a major molar reconstructive filling and, even with anaesthetic, it hurt like holy hell. Teeth are the part of me that's been a consistent nuisance for years now. Still, my dentist charged me less to have the operation privately than if I had it done on the NHS. ![]()
Yesterday, Dave posted a video of how he blogs on the Blackberry. Today, I finally got around to making a "PalmCast" - it's a fairly ropey video showing how I use my Palm Pilot to do a whole bunch of different things including: reading RSS, blogging, watching video, listening to music, outlining, navigation and a few other things. ![]()
I still don't get the PodShow interface. Why is there not an XML link on the front page of every show? The RSS feed is for the whole show, not the episodes - so why do you have to click through to the episodes to find the RSS?
Perhaps it's because once you've got the RSS feed, the whole purpose of the site is now complete - you can copy it in to your podcatcher and enjoy. Why is there no autodiscovery?
Maybe because there's no motivation to actually get the RSS feed in the hands of the user. Once they've got the RSS feed, the whole purpose of a podcast site falls away. That's why tech-savvy users are far better served by an OPML file and OPML renderer.
I don't get it because the site crawls on my (dual 2.0GHz, 1Gb RAM) machine. And it's filled with such a big load of useless crap. I don't really care what other people have said about the show. I care about the show itself and most importantly the RSS. "Digs" and user comments aren't going to keep my ears filled during my commute - podcasts are. And podcasts rely on RSS. Give it to the user and get out of their way.
