Vacuum

In Chicago, finally. The flight took off around 3:30 and landed without incident. ORD is a mess. Happy to be in my hotel room. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

DTW airport, 2:50pm. Onboard NW 1243 Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Pilot says "weather in chicago, MDW closed, ORD increased spacing". Wheels up time in 25 minutes, flying time 42 minutes (or more).

Original airplane had a "maintenance problem".

ORD: partly cloudy, rain, winds 25-30 mph.

FAA says average delay 2 hrs 47 minutes, and their pages are quite legible on my Blackberry.

DTW airport, 2:25pm. A49. NW 1243 now boarding.  Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Battery mostly charged -2:43.

Will I have wifi at the gate?

Yeah, right. They'll never get off then. FAA says delays averaging 2:47, and ground stop at MDW until after 1:30pm CDT.

Power outlet at A50 right near the smartecartes.

Amtrak, http://www.amtrak.com. There's a 5:34pm train from Dearborn MI, $64.00, arriving 9:54pm. Still plenty of time to decide. Yahoo says it's a 13 minute trip to get there, which probably means 30 minutes, and I'd want to get there 30 minutes early, so leave at 4:30 if I need to take the train.

Between A68 and A70 there's a bank of phones with seats. The two seats closest to the window have power outlets, and enough space to put a laptop down.

DTW airport, noon. The flight is somewhat later. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Seating, but no power outlets, at National Coney Island across from A47. I should have had a coney dog, I guess.

Internet is $8/day. That's a lot. I haven't yet figured out how to get my Sprint Ambassador phone to work with my Mac ("unsupported", they say, which means it's up to you to figure it out though it will probably work).

The plan is to take the El from ORD to the Loop, visit the library, and then take Metra out to Hinsdale the hotel shuttle. Then out to dinner! Lots of transporation, but I won't have to drive or take a cab. That is, if the weather on the way to ORD cooperates...rainy there and travel delays.
